I'm a 15 year old girl, 5'11, done growing. In February, I found out that I weighed 157 (I had gained 10 pounds in 6 months). I understand that 157 pounds is a healthy weight for my height but you can understand that I was shocked. I decided to lose the weight, plus more, so I could feel more confident. I am also a competitive volleyball player and with less weight, I can move quicker and jump higher. I downloaded an iPhone app that's an awesome diet tool that includes the calorie counter among numerous other tools. I was on a plan of staying under 1650 calories a day, and I shedded 5 pounds within a month, then fell off the diet scheme a little while until May when I started it up again and I have been doing it ever since.
I had been satisfied with my weight loss rate (although we all would love to lose more faster) until recently. As prescribed by my diet app, I was on a plan of eating less than 1450 calories a day, now than I'm at a lighter weight than my old 1650 plan prescribed. I've been eating between 1200-1450 usually but I've only lost 4 pounds since June (I was 149 then, now I'm 145).
I used to lose between 1-2 lbs a week, but have only lost about half a pound, a pound at most in the last 2 weeks, despite my weight loss tool's prediction of 2lbs shedded per week--I should have lost 4. Recently, I've started having digestion problems--I frequently have an upset stomach and I get, uhh a little gassy and I don't...go #2 nearly as often. This has never happened to me before. I am a very conscious eater, eating very very little junk food and eating tons of fruits, veggies and whole grains. I eat plenty of lean proteins and fiber and minimal fats.
Last weekend, I was on vacation and let myself live a little by ordering stuff I used to when eating out like cheeseburgers, french fries, Mexican dishes, etc, just eating more food than usual. I had zero digestive problems and did not gain any weight. WHY?!?!
I've considered hormone changes, my body wanting to stay at my current weight, etc. I still want to lose another 10 lbs--the slimmest I can be while still having a healthy BMI. I've still got fat on my thighs and butt that definitely does not need to be there. Why have I stopped losing weight and getting weird stomach problems and how can I fix it and still shed at least a pound a week?
Answer on Why have I stopped losing weight and developing ?
See what happens in the next few weeks, but I would suspect your body is saying "nope, this is as low as I go." If you're having digestive problems and stopped losing as much weight as your calculations would predict, it could be that you're pushing the calorie deficit too far and your metabolism is slowing down.
Since your digestive problems went away eating higher fat food, it might be a nutritional imbalance e.g. not enough fat that the different food solved. Also, just as when you start eating less your metabolism tends to slow down, when you start eating more it tends to speed up - so you could have spiked your metabolism on your vacation, causing you not to gain any weight.. Bodybuilders take advantage of this effect by eating their maintenance calories or more every 3-7 days, but maintaining an average calorie deficit.
Finally, the BMI range is meant to accommodate the variety of body types in the world. My boyfriend would probably be pudgy and not feel good at a BMI of 24, and I would probably be deathly skinny at a BMI of 19. Just because it's in the healthy range doesn't mean that you personally will be healthy at that BMI. Women always have fat on their thighs and butt because that's where female hormones like to deposit it. Congratulations on losing weight in a healthy way - but consider that this may just be the lower limit for you. If you don't feel good when you try to go lower, that's probably the case.
