have you ever been on a diet that worked really well?? can you explain the diet? I'd love to get some ideas, i'm not on any kind of special diet right now just trying to eat less, eat healthier, and exercise more. any tips/tricks? :) thanks in advance.

Very simple in principle.
Use an online daily calories used calculator, plug in the numbers and subtract 500-1000 a day (500 is better).
Eat those number of calories daily for 1-2 per week weight loss and you wil lose fat healthily with minimal muscle loss. If you lose muscle your metabolism will slow down and you'll gain weight back quicker, plus it doesn't look good.
Eat 3 to 5 meals a day with all the good stuff your mom told you about; vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, fruits, skim milk, etc.
No crazy, trendy ideas needed. There is always some fad diet that is suppose to be revolutionary with some skewed junk science/theory behind it and testimonials from people before they gained the weight back.
Both weights and cardio are good to do. If you have to choose one, choose weights. You will build and keep muscle which burns calories just sitting on the couch with the higher metabolism. A few sets twice a week on each muscle is all you need. And no, you won't get huge muscles and look gross - that is a fear no one need have unless they work out like crazy and dedicate their lives to it for years.
