What are the chances of me getting pregnant?

Well me and my boyfriend have finally decided to have sex. Im 17 and overweight, I weigh about 230 and am trying to get below 200 currently. (I've been struggling with weight my whole life and Im trying to do something about it)... I want to know the chances of me getting pregnant if I have a very irregular period, I mean I have my cycles like every 4 months or so, Im not on the pill or anything and I strongly believe my weight has something to do with it because last year I tried losing weight and managed to get my weight down to about 205 and had started my periods monthly again. So I want to know what are the chances of me getting pregnant with this irregular period... we are going to use a condom by the way. I DO NOT WANT to get on the pill because Im afraid it may affect my weight loss, but if the chances of me getting pregnant are likely then I must force myself to get on it. What s hould I do???? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT CAUSES ME TO HAVE PERIODS IN SUCH A WAY... IM 17 AND I DONT WANT TO GET PREGNANT!!!

Answer on What are the chances of me getting pregnant?

Your irregular periods do not affect your chances of falling pregnant, so you have the same odds as anyone else. Using a condom correctly (with lubrication and for all genital contact) greatly decreases your chances, but even still, it only takes a slip or tear to lose all protection. The link below explains how to use a condom correctly.

It's always best to use two methods of birth control, so you always have a backup. If you are this concerned about pregnancy, talk to you doctor about what method of birth control would be best for you. Many women experience no weight gain and studies have shown that as many women lose weight as those who gain it on BC. Side effects, if they occur at all, are unique to every individual. Birth control may also help to regulate your periods.
