After the last question I asked with Elijah, I just can't trust this guy. Killing Klaus? Klaus? Klaus? Hear the name carefully: Klaus. The Lord of All Vampires? We have to think about this? Elijah must be hiding something and being so nice to Elena? What is it that he's trying to do? Even Damon doesn't trust Elijah one bit! Damon is a Vampire himself, so even I would think twice if I was a Vampire. Obviously Damon knows something about this guy. Who Knows What Elijah is really up to. Especially that Moonstone, who is telling the truth? Obviously every Vampire/Werewolf wants it right? Doesn't it give you a hint that it's not just a piece of stone? Of course Elijah is a man with words, but up to when? Who knows how powerful he is? The way he turns things. We'll just have to see to know, but bottom line is: Who you Trust Elijah if you were Elena?
Answer on Do Vampire Diaries fans trust Elijah? Would you trust him if you were Elena?
The way that they love twists and surprises on this show, I wouldn't surprise me one bit if Elijah turned out to be a bad guy. I'm not saying that I think he's going to, but something doesn't add up. In the beginning when Elijah first turned up, all the vampires (Rose, Trevor, the geeky one etc) were terrified of him, and he was described as being Klaus' main henchman. We only have Elijah's word for it that he's secretly working against Klaus and wants him dead. For all we know, all this "I live by a code of honour and keep my word" talk could just be a load, meant to keep Elena and crew complacent. After all, Katherine (as a human) escaped and became a vampire to ruin their plans, they'd want to prevent Elena from doing the same thing.
Final thoughts: Damon generally has pretty good instincts when it comes to people's motives. He doesn't trust Elijah. And so...
